This 1954 archival collection, published in Tbilisi, is a specialized historical record of one of the most remarkable underground operations in the history of the Russian revolutionary movement. The text provides a deep dive into the internal logic of clandestine publishing, including the arrangement of documents, memoirs, and technical descriptions of the Avlabari illegal printing house, which operated in a secret vault beneath a residential house in the Avlabari district of Tbilisi. Managed by the Caucasian Union Committee of the RSDLP, this facility was responsible for printing thousands of pamphlets and newspapers, including "Proletariatis Brdzola" (The Struggle of the Proletariat), right under the noses of the Tsarist Gendarmerie.  As a vital primary source, this volume documents the sophisticated engineering of the hidden print shop—featuring a deep shaft and an electric signaling system—and its eventual discovery and destruction in 1906. Compiled by the Georgian branch of the Marx-Engels-Lenin-Stalin Institute, the book serves as a testament to the organizational genius of early Bolshevik leaders in the Caucasus, including Joseph Stalin and Mikhail Tskhakaya. This hardcover edition, notable for the year discrepancy between its title page (1954) and cover (1955), is a significant bibliographical rarity for historians of the Russian Revolution, specialists in the history of the Georgian labor movement, and collectors of revolutionary ephemera and underground press history.
