A dissertation abstract from the Steklov Mathematical Institute documenting an early result in multidimensional local limit theory, supervised by Yuri Vasilyevich Prokhorov, one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Soviet probability theory and later director of the Steklov Institute and academician. The dissertation establishes sufficient conditions under which weak convergence of the distribution of a normalized sum of independent random vectors to the normal distribution implies the stronger convergence of the corresponding densities, furnishing multidimensional local limit theorems together with explicit rate-of-convergence estimates whose constants reflect both the dimensionality and specific characteristics of the underlying sequence of random vectors. The official opponents were themselves prominent figures: Salahitdin Sirazhdinov, Academician of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences and a leading Central Asian probabilist, and Leonid Bolshev, a noted specialist in mathematical statistics at the Steklov Institute. As this copy's blank defence-date field indicates, it circulated in the weeks immediately following typesetting, before the defence date was finalized, and was duplicated in a small run of 180 free copies on the rotaprint of Tbilisi State University's Institute of Applied Mathematics for distribution among the author's Georgian colleagues - consistent with the presentation inscription in Georgian, dated 29 July 1972, on the front flyleaf.
