A significant mid-Soviet scholarly and artistic French edition of "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" (Le Preux a la peau de tigre), the celebrated twelfth-century Georgian national epic by Shota Rustaveli. This volume represents a major twentieth-century effort to render the psychological depth and complex metaphorical structure of the epic accessible to a Francophone audience. The text preserves the classic translation foundations laid by Elisabeth Orbeliani (1871-1942) and the prominent Soviet Kartvelian philologist Solomon Iordanichvili (1894-1952), meticulously revised and prepared for publication by the noted translators and literary scholars Gaston Bouatchidze and Guivi Meladze. Visually striking, the volume features modern graphic designs and illustrations by Zourab Kapanadze, housed under a reflective gold-laminated dust jacket and a crisp silver-stamped hardcover.
