A scarce pre-war compilation of Abkhazian folklore, published in Sukhumi during the complex cultural and political climate of the late 1930s. Issued by the Union of Soviet Writers of Abkhazia, the volume gathers traditional Abkhazian oral narratives, including animal fables, heroic legends, and tales of magic, translated into Russian by N. Sapezhko and edited by Georgy Gulia, a foundational figure in modern Abkhazian literature. This specific copy possesses a fascinating institutional provenance: it is marked as a "Mandatory Control Copy" and bears the stamps of the Georgian Book Chamber, complete with a Georgian archivist's handwritten receipt. Such control copies were traditionally deposited in central state archives immediately upon publication. The book was subsequently protected in a custom binding, with the original title wrapper carefully preserved and pasted onto the front board. Due to the limited regional print run of 3,100 copies and the high rate of destruction of pre-war Abkhazian imprints, surviving copies, especially those with documented institutional history, are highly uncommon on the antiquarian market and represent valuable primary material for Caucasian ethnography and folklore studies.
