The editor-publisher, Pyotr Petrovich Weiner (1879–1931), was a well-known art historian, collector, and museum figure, secretary of the "Circle of Lovers of Russian Fine Editions." The journal was founded on his initiative in 1907; for the first year it was edited by Vasily Andreevich Vereshchagin, and from 1908, Weiner became its sole editor and publisher. As noted by the bibliophile N.P. Smirnov-Sokolsky, the publication was distinguished by its deep immersion in the world of noble estate culture and the art of the past.
This issue (October-December 1916) is a volume of one of the most authoritative Russian pre-revolutionary art periodicals. The journal published articles on Russian and Western European art, architecture, collecting, book illustration, and museum collections. The publication is richly illustrated and contains unique factual material of great value to art historians, museum professionals, bibliophiles, and collectors.
