This 1922 Berlin edition is an early Soviet-era translation of John Dewey's influential work on the psychology and pedagogy of thinking. Published by the State Publishing House of the RSFSR operating in Berlin, this volume reflects the intense intellectual engagement of early Soviet educators and psychologists with progressive Western educational theories, particularly American pragmatism. Dewey (1859–1952), a leading philosopher of pragmatism, profoundly influenced theories of experiential learning. This translation, prepared by N. M. Nikolsky and edited by N. D. Vinogradov, made his key ideas accessible to the Russian-speaking academic community during the formative years of the Soviet educational system. As a product of the early 1920s published abroad, it is a significant artifact of transnational intellectual exchange and the history of educational thought.
