A complete two-volume facsimile of one of the notable narrative sources for early Ottoman history: the "Beda'i ul-veka'i" (Wondrous Events), the universal history of Koca Hüseyn, an Ottoman chronicler of the seventeenth century. The surviving second part of the work, edited here, recounts the history of the Ottoman state from its foundation down to 1520, drawing on and preserving material from earlier chroniclers. The unique manuscript reproduced, probably the author's autograph, was identified in 1950 in the Leningrad collection of the Institute of Oriental Studies and published in facsimile by A. S. Tveritinova, the foremost Soviet Ottomanist, with her introduction and general editorship and with an annotated table of contents and indices by Yu. A. Petrosyan. The facsimile reproduces the Ottoman Turkish text in Arabic script page by page, with the Russian scholarly apparatus printed at the front and the reproduced manuscript read from the opposite cover. Issued in the prestigious academic series "Monuments of the Literature of the Peoples of the East" (Texts, Large Series, XIV) in a small print run of only 1,000 copies, the set is of strong interest to Ottomanists, Turkologists, historians of the Ottoman Empire, and research libraries, as well as to collectors of Soviet Oriental-studies facsimile editions.
