This is the first and likely only separate edition (1939) of the patriotic song "Soviet Border Guard," composed by Boris G. Goltz (1913–1942) to the verses of the renowned Dagestani folk poet Suleiman Stalsky (1869–1937). Published by the State Music Publishing House (Muzgiz) on the eve of World War II, this sheet music embodies the militant, defensive spirit of the late 1930s USSR. The work is scored for voice (with a medium range of c–f¹, suitable for tenor or baritone) and piano, featuring a march-like rhythm and heroic melody that glorify the vigilance and courage of border troops. As a period artifact, it reflects the state's use of mass song for ideological mobilization. The publication is a rare survival of pre-war Soviet musical ephemera, of interest to collectors of Sovietiana, historians of music and propaganda, and specialists in the culture of the Stalinist period.
