This book is the second, abridged edition of the philosophical-aesthetic work The Purpose of Creativity by the Symbolist poet and thinker Konstantin Aleksandrovich Syunnerberg (1871–1942), who published under the pseudonym K. Erberg. It was published in Petrograd in 1919, during the height of the Civil War, by the famous publishing house "Alkonost", a center of Silver Age culture that continued to operate under Soviet rule. Erberg was not only a poet but also an idealist philosopher, art theorist, and founder of innormism—a philosophical-aesthetic concept that championed the intrinsic value of inner form and the creative act. In his work, he explores the nature of creativity, the relationship between art and mysticism, and the connection between the artist's personality and the transcendent. As an edition published during a difficult historical moment, in a modest typographic cover, this book is an important testimony to the intellectual life of the era and a bibliographic rarity of interest to historians of philosophy, literature, and Russian Symbolism.
