This booklet from 1934 is a vivid example of the Georgian avant-garde applied to the propaganda of Soviet industrialization. It presents a report on the electrification of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (ZSFSR), prepared by engineers D. V. Leskovatsky and G. A. Pappe for the regional energy authority Glavenergo. Its main significance, however, lies in its visual presentation. The cover and graphic design were created by the prominent Soviet and Georgian painter and graphic artist Pyotr Mikhailovich Bletkin (1903–1988), a graduate of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, a set designer for the Tbilisi Opera, and later an Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1961). The design is a clear manifestation of constructivist aesthetics typical of the 1930s, using geometric forms, dynamic composition, and typography to visualize the theme of technological progress and state planning. Published in Tiflis by Zakgiz in a modest print run of 3,000 copies, this booklet is a valuable artifact, merging utilitarian technical reporting with high-quality avant-garde book art, making it a desirable collectible for enthusiasts of Soviet design and industrial history.
