This is the 1938 Soviet edition of Denis Diderot's seminal philosophical dialogue, Paradoxe sur le comédien (The Paradox of the Actor), originally composed around 1773-1778 and posthumously published in 1830. This Russian translation was prepared by the noted literary scholar and translator Konstantin Nikolaevich Derzhavin (1903-1956), who also provided an introductory article and commentary, framing the work within Marxist-Leninist aesthetics. Published by the state publishing house "Iskusstvo" (Art) in Moscow-Leningrad, this volume features a cover design by artist L. S. Khizhinsky.
