Состояние: хорошее. Обложка равномерно потемнела от времени с утратами бумаги в верхнем правом и нижнем правом углах; уголки потёрты и слегка загнуты. Задняя сторонка чистая, без разрывов, с мелкой потёртостью нижнего края. Блок - очень хороший: страницы чисты, без утрат текста. Сшивка блока прочная.

Publisher's illustrated wrappers (cream card stock with Kupreyanov's black geometric bird design). Thread-sewn. 
Condition good. Wrappers evenly toned with age, with small losses to the upper right and lower right corners; corners rubbed and lightly turned. Rear wrapper clean, with only minor wear to the lower edge. Text block very good: leaves clean throughout, no loss of text; front free endpaper bears a later owner's inscription dated "1969," unrelated to the original publication. Sewing structure sound.

A landmark of Russian Silver Age book production: the first edition of Alexander Blok's "Iambs," a cycle of twelve civically-charged poems written between 1907 and 1914, published by Samuil Alyansky's celebrated Petrograd press Alkonost at the height of the Civil War. The wrapper design is by Nikolai Kupreyanov (1894-1933), a leading graphic artist and printmaker of the period, while the distinctive Alkonost publisher's device was designed by Yuri Annenkov (1889-1974), the avant-garde painter and graphic artist best known for his Cubist illustrations to Blok's poem "The Twelve." Blok himself died only two years after this edition appeared, making it one of the last collections published in his lifetime.
