This volume is a Russian translation of a work by the German psychologist Viktor Betz (Victor Betz), published by the Moscow cooperative publishing house "Russkiy knizhnik" in 1923. The translator, Pavel Alexeevich Shevarev (1892-1972), was a prominent Soviet psychologist and a key figure in the development of educational psychology and the study of abilities in the USSR. The book addresses the then-cutting-edge application of correlation methods (a statistical technique for measuring relationships between variables) to the study of mental abilities. Its publication reflects the intense scientific dialogue between Russian and Western psychology in the post-revolutionary period, a time of methodological innovation and the active assimilation of new quantitative approaches in the human sciences.
