This book is the official tournament collection for one of the two Interzonal events of the 1973-1975 World Chess Championship cycle, held in Petrópolis, Brazil. Compiled by Viktor Baturinsky, it documents a crucial qualifying stage where the top three finishers earned spots in the prestigious Candidates Matches. The tournament was famously won by Brazilian Grandmaster Henrique Mecking, with a tight race for the remaining qualification places leading to an additional playoff match-tournament in Portorož between Efim Geller, Lajos Portisch, and Lev Polugaevsky. The volume contains all 153 games from the main event and 12 games from the playoff, with detailed commentary by participating grandmasters like Geller, Polugaevsky, Vasily Smyslov, and others. As a primary source published immediately after the event, it provides invaluable insight into the competitive chess landscape of the early 1970s.
