This is an extremely rare émigré publication issued in Stuttgart—a major 19th-century hub for Russian dissident and revolutionary printing—that was strictly banned within the Russian Empire. The pamphlet presents an anonymous eyewitness account of the assassination of Emperor Alexander II by members of the revolutionary organization Narodnaya Volya (The People's Will) on March 1, 1881. Published in 1898, this second edition served to keep the memory of the regicide alive in émigré circles and to circulate a version of events counter to the official imperial narrative. As a clandestine political text, it is a significant artifact of pre-revolutionary Russian underground literature and the history of revolutionary movements opposing the Tsarist autocracy.
