This second issue of a scholarly series is dedicated to the study of three monumental poets of the Caucasus and Persia: the Persians Khaqani and Nizami Ganjavi, and the Georgian national poet Shota Rustaveli. It contains archival articles and letters by the prominent Russian orientalists Yuri Nikolaevich Marr and K.I. Chaykin. The volume was meticulously prepared for publication by S. M. Marr and the renowned Georgian caucasologist Alexander Alekseyevich Gvakharia (1925–2007). Published by the Georgian Academy of Sciences in 1966, this collection addresses profound questions of the Eastern Renaissance, cross-cultural literary connections, and the textual criticism of Rustaveli's "The Knight in the Panther's Skin." Its extremely limited print run makes it a bibliographic rarity. A copy bearing the autograph of compiler Alexander Gvakharia adds exceptional scholarly and personal value, connecting this specialized work directly to one of its principal editors.
