The editorial board was composed of leading Soviet classical philologists: Professor Nikolai Fyodorovich Deratani (1890-?), a specialist in ancient literature; Professor Sergei Ivanovich Radtsig (1882-1968), a well-known historian of ancient culture and literature; and Ilya Moiseevich Nakhov (1920-2006), a leading scholar of ancient skepticism and philosophy. The collection is a collective scholarly work published to mark the significant date of the 2400th anniversary of the birth of the great ancient Greek comic playwright Aristophanes. Articles by leading classicists of the time examine issues of poetics, worldview, and the historical-cultural context of his work, as well as its influence on world literature.
