Torquato Tasso (March 11, 1544 - April 25, 1595) - Italian poet of the 16th century, writer, playwright and philosopher. The most famous and important work, translated into many languages, is "Jerusalem Delivered" (1581). It celebrates the clashes between Christians and Muslims during the First Crusade, which ended with the Christians taking Jerusalem. In 1573, Tasso wrote the pastoral drama Aminta. This is one of his most famous works, which appealed to the courtly taste of the 16th century.
