A commemorative collection of articles published in 1923 to mark the 75th anniversary of the wave of bourgeois-democratic revolutions that swept across Europe in 1848. The volume is notable for its cover design by the renowned artist Sergei Chekhonin (1878–1936), a master of graphic art and a key figure in the Mir iskusstva (World of Art) movement. Following the Russian Revolution, Chekhonin became famous for his revolutionary posters, graphic design, and, most notably, his work as the artistic director of the State Porcelain Factory, where he created iconic propaganda plates and objects. His distinctive style, combining elegance with bold revolutionary symbolism, made him one of the most sought-after designers for early Soviet publications. This book, analyzing the historical significance of 1848 from a Marxist perspective, is a prime example of the sophisticated propaganda art produced in the first decade of Soviet power.
