"The Trial of the Fifty" ("The Trial of the Muscovites", the Trial of the Participants of the "All-Russian Social-Revolutionary Organization", official title: "The Case of Various Persons Accused of the State Crime of Forming an Illegal Community and Disseminating Criminal Works") is a trial of populist revolutionaries, accused of participating in a "secret community whose goal was to overthrow the existing order", which was heard in St. Petersburg, in the Special Presence of the Governing Senate from February 21 to March 14, 1877. The first political trial in Russia in which workers and women actively participated. All the defendants were young, mostly 18-23 years old. The main charge was participation in a "secret society aimed at overthrowing the existing order." Almost all members of the revolutionary organization ended up in the dock, and the organization ceased to exist. The trial was open and public.
