The inaugural issue of the influential Russian philosophical journal “Logos,” published on the eve of World War I. This issue features seminal contributions, including Heinrich Rickert's “On the System of Values,” F. Zelinsky's “Charis: The Idea of Grace in Ancient Religion,” and G. E. Lanz's “Freedom and Consciousness.” The journal was a primary vehicle for Neo-Kantian thought in Russia, championing the autonomy of philosophy and focusing on epistemology and the theory of values while distancing itself from mysticism and positivism. Its publication was suspended after the outbreak of war. This copy, with several unopened pages, is a significant rarity of early 20th-century Russian intellectual history.
