Author: Enrico Fermi (1901–1954) was an Italian and American physicist, one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century, creator of the world's first nuclear reactor, Nobel Prize laureate in Physics in 1938. His work laid the foundations of modern nuclear physics, elementary particle physics, quantum theory, and statistical mechanics.
The two-volume collection is the most comprehensive edition of Fermi's scientific heritage in Russian. It includes virtually all of his original research papers, as well as reviews and lectures covering the entire spectrum of his interests—from statistical mechanics and quantum theory to nuclear and particle physics. Of particular value are the reports from the Manhattan Project period, published for the first time in this edition. The books serve as an indispensable source for studying the history of physics and the work of one of its key creators.
