VI International Chekhov Theatre Festival. / Festival Booklet.
Moscow: MKTS Publishing House Printing Office, 2005.
142 pp.: ill. Softcover, large format. In Russian.
This representative 2005 program booklet documents one of the most ambitious stages in the history of the Chekhov Festival — the sixth forum, which finally secured Moscow's status as one of the world's theatrical capitals. The 2005 festival was a unique showcase of world theatrical art, presenting the Russian audience with a panorama of 58 performances that combined classical traditions and radical experimentation.
The centerpiece of the booklet is the "World Series", which featured 24 productions. This year was particularly notable for its emphasis on the theatrical arts of Latin America and Asia: the program included 5 performances from Brazil, 4 from Japan, and 3 from Taiwan. The publication contains detailed annotations for the productions, information about the directors, cast lists, and exclusive stage photographs, many of which were revelations for theatrical critics of the time.
A separate section is dedicated to the "Experimental and Youth Program", featuring works by innovators from Poland, the USA, and France, as well as striking productions from Armenia and Uzbekistan. The booklet reflects the festival's primary mission — cultural dialogue and the search for a new theatrical language within a space consecrated by the name of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.
