This 1960 scholarly edition by A. Urinboev represents the first major Soviet effort to bring the travelogues of the 15th-century diplomat and historian Abdurazzoq Samarkandiy to a wide academic audience. The text provides a deep dive into the internal logic of Timurid diplomacy, including the arrangement of Samarkandiy’s mission to the Vijayanagara Empire in Southern India between 1441 and 1444. This work features the original Persian critical text (based on the Leningrad manuscript of Matla-us-Sa'dayn) alongside a complete Uzbek translation. Samarkandiy's detailed descriptions of the port of Calicut, the wealth of the Hindu kings, and the maritime routes of the Indian Ocean serve as a vital primary source for documenting the geopolitical and cultural links between Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent during the Middle Ages.  The edition is significantly enhanced by Urinboev’s extensive commentaries, a route map of the journey, and indices. Published by the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, this volume is a cornerstone of Soviet Oriental studies (Vostokovedenie) and an essential bibliographical rarity for historians of the Timurid dynasty and Silk Road travel literature.
