This 1957 publication is a critical reissue of a seminal work by Alexander Tsagareli, a pioneer of Caucasian linguistics and the founder of the Georgian philology department at Saint Petersburg University. The text provides a deep dive into the internal logic of the Ibero-Caucasian language family, including the arrangement of comparative morphological analyses that sought to establish genetic links between the various Kartvelian and North Caucasian languages. Originally written in the late 19th century, this edition was meticulously prepared by the legendary linguist Akaki Shanidze, who provided an essential foreword contextualizing Tsagareli's contributions within the framework of modern Soviet linguistics.  As a vital primary source, this volume documents the historical foundations of comparative-historical linguistics in the Caucasus and reflects the mid-century academic effort to preserve the classical heritage of Georgian scholarship. The work includes facsimile reproductions that illustrate the evolution of linguistic thought and the development of the "Iberian" hypothesis. Published as a supplement to the "Proceedings of the Tbilisi Stalin State University" with a limited print run of 1,500 copies, this large-format softcover edition is a significant bibliographical rarity for Caucasiologists, historians of linguistics, and collectors of specialized academic imprints from the Georgian SSR.
