The official statistical portrait of Soviet Georgia issued for the semicentennial of the October Revolution, compiled by the Central Statistical Administration of the Georgian SSR and printed in Tbilisi in an edition of only three thousand copies. The volume assembles the republic's aggregate data across the full span of Soviet rule, with benchmark years of 1913, 1940, 1960 and 1966 running through tables on industrial output, electrification, machine building, mining and chemicals, agriculture and viticulture, transport and construction, retail trade, housing, public health, education, publishing and the arts. Its distinguishing feature is the substantial suite of pictorial plates prepared by the graphic artist D. A. Katsman, printed in colour and using the isotype-derived visual vocabulary of Soviet statistical design: repeated pictograms for cement sacks, machine tools, trucks and electric locomotives, layered bar clusters for hosiery, knitwear and footwear, and line graphs charting cotton, silk and woollen fabric output. Jubilee compilations of this kind were produced for internal administrative and propaganda circulation rather than for the trade, in short runs, and most surviving copies sit in institutional collections; they were superseded within a few years by the 1971 volumes marking the fiftieth anniversary of Soviet power in Georgia itself. The book is of interest on two independent grounds: as a primary quantitative source for the economic and social history of the Georgian SSR in the Khrushchev and early Brezhnev decades, valued by economic historians and by researchers working on Soviet nationalities policy in the Caucasus, and as a designed object, sought by collectors of Soviet information graphics and mid-century book design.
