A remarkably rare pre-revolutionary anthology of Georgian lyric poetry translated into Russian, published in Tiflis (Tbilisi) on the eve of World War I. The compilation was translated and published by N. E. Mzareulov, who concealed his identity behind the cryptonym "N. E. M." and the anagrammatic pseudonym "Nik. Reullo" (Mza-reul-ov). The volume represents a vital early twentieth-century effort to introduce the masterpieces of the Georgian Silver Age and classical romanticism to the Russian-speaking public. The anthology encompasses the finest works of the Georgian literary pantheon, featuring early translations of Nikoloz Baratashvili, Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Vazha-Pshavela, Grigol Abashidze, and Kote Makashvili, among others. Such provincial, privately funded poetic editions from the Caucasus were printed in very limited numbers and suffered extraordinarily low survival rates due to their fragile paper wrappers and the ensuing decades of revolution and war.
