This exceptional collection of seventeen vintage booklets, published in 1958 by the Ministry of Culture of the Georgian SSR, serves as a comprehensive gallery of the "Golden Age" of Georgian theater and cinema. Edited by V. Kuprava, each slim volume is dedicated to a legendary performer who shaped the cultural identity of the republic during the mid-20th century. The set features such titans of the stage as Veriko Anjaparidze, Akaki Khorava, and Akaki Vasadze, alongside beloved stars like Medea Japaridze and Sergo Zakariadze. These booklets were produced during a period of intense artistic flourishing in Tbilisi, documenting the careers of actors from the Rustaveli and Marjanishvili theaters, as well as pioneers of the Georgian National Ballet like Vera Tsignadze.
Each booklet follows a consistent elegant design, featuring portrait photography and biographical sketches that highlight the artist's most celebrated roles in both classical drama and the burgeoning Georgian film industry. The narrow, portable format (11x21 cm) was typical for theatrical souvenirs of the 1950s, intended for both the dedicated playgoer and the professional historian. With a limited print run of 5,000 copies, complete sets of these seventeen portraits have become increasingly rare. They represent a vital primary source for researchers of Soviet theatrical history and collectors of Georgian memorabilia, capturing the faces of a generation that elevated Georgian performing arts to international acclaim.
