This reference work was issued in 1974 by the Order of the Red Banner of Labour Military Publishing House of the Soviet Ministry of Defence for the Motor Transport Service of the Rear. It was drawn up by the research laboratory of the Military Order of Lenin Academy of Logistics and Transport, with Lieutenant Colonel Engineer I. D. Istomin as the responsible executor, on the basis of trial loadings and actual transport of the listed cargo types. The preface recommends it to motor transport officers, depot and base staff, cadets of military automobile schools, students of the Academy and all personnel who handle, store or move military cargo by road. The book sets out loading norms for trucks, trailers and semi-trailers: the transport characteristics of the vehicles, the rules for forming packages on pallets and in containers, and the tables of loads in standard packaging, in packages, on box pallets and in containers, with norms for seating personnel. Four appendices give diagrams for forming and fastening packages, loading universal containers, stacking cargo in vehicle bodies and placing packages, box pallets and containers; special attention is paid to ammunition and to the loading of army motor transport. Marked "Free of charge", it was not sold and circulated only inside the armed forces, and the print run is not stated. It is a precise record of Soviet military logistics in the mature Brezhnev period, in the era of containerisation and palletised handling. It will interest collectors of Soviet military literature, historians of logistics and transport, and specialists in the Soviet armed forces.
