A scarce and highly specialized linguistic manual of the literary Arabic language, compiled by the prominent Georgian Arabist Aleksi Lekiashvili and edited by Academician Giorgi Tsereteli, the founding father of the Georgian school of Oriental studies. Published by Tbilisi State University in 1953, this work was a significant achievement in Soviet Semitology. The book provides 107 comprehensive tables detailing the complex conjugation paradigms of Arabic verbs, including regular, doubled, hamzated, and weak forms. As noted in Tsereteli's preface, the publication of this complex work was made possible only because a specialized Arabic typeface was deliberately designed and cast at the Tbilisi University typography by M. Garsoishvili, adding a unique typographic and historical dimension to this volume. Issued during the late Stalin era in a strictly limited print run of just 1,000 copies, early Soviet regional publications on Semitic languages are genuinely difficult to find. This volume remains an important artifact for historians of Soviet Orientalism, linguists, and collectors of rare academic literature.
