A scarce monograph by Sergey Grigoryevich Kashchenko of St. Petersburg State University, applying quantitative and computer-assisted methods to the analysis of the implementation of the Emancipation Reform of February 19, 1861 in Pskov Province. The study represents a methodologically distinctive contribution to the Russian historiography of the Great Reform, employing database analysis and statistical modeling at a moment when such approaches were only beginning to enter Russian historical scholarship after the opening of the archives and the expanded availability of computing resources. Three chapters examine the existing historiography of the 1861 reform in Pskov Province; the sources for its implementation; and the reform itself, through both a general characterization of Pskov Province at mid-century and a detailed district-by-district analysis of the conditions of emancipation across all eight uezds of the province - Pskov, Ostrov, Opochka, Novorzhev, Porkhov, Velikiye Luki, Kholm, and Toropets - culminating in a synthesis of the general results. The volume is accompanied by a substantial statistical appendix of tables. Published in St. Petersburg University's own typography and typeset in AMS-TeX, the book was issued in an edition of 400 copies and did not reach wide distribution. Of interest to specialists in Russian agrarian history, the history of the Emancipation, Pskov regional history, and the application of quantitative methods in Russian historical research.
