Ivan Petrovich Ivanov was a regional author whose three known books were all issued in Chelyabinsk, Alenushka (1948), Severyanka (1951) and this collection of fourteen poems for children (1953). The title poem, which opens the book, is addressed to Soviet schoolchildren who correspond with Czech pupils in the town of Lovosice on the Elbe, and so belongs to the early 1950s campaign of friendship between Soviet and Czechoslovak youth. The remaining poems follow the usual themes of the Young Pioneer verse of the time: school compositions and a bad mark, skiing and skating, a spring thaw, the river Yuryuzan, and encounters with a hedgehog, a bear, a watering place for deer and young golden eagles that close the book. The design is credited to S. S. Alyukhin. The wrappers are printed in orange, brown and cream with a campfire circle of pioneers, the title page prints the title in red, and the pages are decorated with black line drawings. A note on the verso of the title page invites young readers to send their opinions to the publisher's address in Chelyabinsk, a typical feature of Soviet children's publishing. The book was signed to print on 31 August 1953 in an edition of 30,000 copies, edited by R. M. Usherenko. Provincial paper-wrapper children's books of this kind were read hard and are seldom found complete and clean.
