The Concordance-Lexicon of the Georgian Four Gospels is the standard reference tool for the vocabulary of the Old Georgian Gospels. It lists the words of the text with their occurrences, so a scholar can trace any word through the four Gospels in one place. Its author, Ivane Imnaishvili (1906-1988), was a leading specialist in Old Georgian. He taught in the Old Georgian Language Department of Tbilisi State University from 1945 until his death, took his doctorate in philology in 1959, became professor in 1960 and a corresponding member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences in 1967. The work first appeared in Tbilisi in 1948-1949. The present volume reprints that edition unchanged, and the errata list at the end belongs to the original text. The editor, Akaki Shanidze (1887-1987), was the founder of the Georgian school of historical linguistics and of Old Georgian studies at Tbilisi State University. This is volume 6 of the series Monuments of the Old Georgian Language, published by Tbilisi University Press. The print run of 10,000 copies was generous for a specialist title, because the book served students and scholars of Old Georgian as a working reference. For the same reason copies are often well used. The book is of interest to Kartvelologists, biblical philologists, historians of the language and students of the Georgian version of the New Testament. It is also of interest to collectors of Georgian scholarship from the Soviet period.
