Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abd Allah ibn Sina (c. 980–1037), known in the West as Avicenna, was a Persian polymath and the preeminent philosopher and physician of the Islamic Golden Age. His philosophical works, particularly the "Book of Healing" and "Book of Salvation," synthesized Aristotelian and Neoplatonic traditions with Islamic theology, profoundly influencing both Islamic and medieval European thought. In celebration of the millennium of his birth, this Soviet academic edition was published under the editorial leadership of M.S. Asimov with a preface by P.N. Fedoseyev
