A scarce early 1950s Georgian translation of selected works by the internationally renowned Turkish poet, playwright, and communist icon Nazim Hikmet (1902–1963). Published in Tbilisi in 1952, shortly after Hikmet was released from a Turkish prison and fled to the Soviet Union (1951), this volume captures the height of his political and literary veneration within the USSR. The translation from Turkish to Georgian was executed by Vakhtang Kekelidze, with a preface by the prominent Georgian poet Grigol Abashidze. The book's cover features a notable piece of period graphic design—a blue dove, heavily inspired by Picasso's Dove of Peace, symbolizing Hikmet's role in the international communist peace movement. While printed in a run of 7,000 copies, survival rates of regional 1950s Soviet literature in good condition are low, and such volumes rarely circulate outside of Eastern Europe. Bearing an elegant private library stamp from 1953, this copy is an excellent artifact for collectors of modern Turkish literature in translation, international avant-garde poetry, and Cold War-era Soviet publishing history.
