This 1933 second, expanded edition of Grigory Abramovich Gurev's work is a classic example of militant atheist propaganda from the peak of the Soviet anti-religious campaign. Published by the specialized State Anti-Religious Publishing House, the book uses the historical conflict surrounding Nicolaus Copernicus's heliocentric theory as a central case study to argue for an inherent and ongoing struggle between "progressive" science and "reactionary" religion. Gurev, a committed Soviet philosopher and atheist activist, frames the Copernican revolution not just as a scientific breakthrough but as a pivotal ideological battleground. The publication, illustrated by artist D. Bazhanov, served as an educational and agitational tool, aiming to discredit religious worldviews and promote a materialist understanding of the universe in line with state ideology.
