The inaugural 1980 issue of "Mtsignobari" (The Bibliophile), the premier annual almanac dedicated to book culture, publishing history, and bibliophilia in Soviet Georgia. Published by the Ilia Chavchavadze Voluntary Society of Book Lovers and edited by the prominent poet Irakli Abashidze, this almanac served as the central intellectual forum for Georgian book collectors and literary historians. The volume is divided into thematic sections covering the history of specific books and libraries, profiles of famous bibliophiles and private collections, discoveries of unknown translations and marginalia, and chronicles of the Georgian bibliophile community. Highlights of this first issue include articles on the marginalia in the newspaper "Iveria", the private library of David Megreli (Dadiani), and the fate of a unique manuscript of "The Knight in the Panther's Skin". Preserved in its original illustrated dust jacket, this first issue is an essential reference and a foundational piece for any collection focused on Georgian print culture and the history of book collecting in the Caucasus.
