A well-worn working copy of Boris Demidovich's celebrated problem book, unquestionably the single most internationally recognized Soviet mathematics textbook after Demidovich's name became, for generations of students both within the USSR and abroad, effectively synonymous with the discipline of solving calculus problems. First issued in the early 1950s and continuously reprinted and translated into dozens of languages, the "Sbornik zadach" organizes several thousand problems in a strict pedagogical progression, from real numbers and sequences through differential and integral calculus of one and several variables, series, and differential equations, and remains in active classroom use in Russian universities to the present day, alongside numerous foreign editions. The present copy is the fourth, stereotype printing, textually identical to the widely used third edition, reflecting the book's status by the late 1950s as a settled, standard university text rather than a work still undergoing revision.
