This bilingual (Russian/English) photo album, titled My Hearth, Dagestan, is a visually and culturally significant publication from the Soviet era. The album is built around the poetic text of the renowned Avar poet Rasul Gamzatov (1923–2003), a People's Poet of Dagestan and laureate of the Lenin Prize. The title metaphor of the "hearth" (ochag) symbolizes the poet's deep, personal connection to his homeland, its traditions, landscapes, and people. The visual narrative is created through the photography of I. I. Stin and A. V. Firsova, showcasing the diverse and majestic scenery of Dagestan—its mountains, villages, Caspian Sea coast—and the daily life, crafts, and portraits of its inhabitants. The artistic design and layout are the work of N. I. Kalinin. Published in 1979 by the "Planeta" publishing house, known for its high-quality illustrated albums, this book served as a form of cultural diplomacy, presenting the rich heritage of one of the USSR's autonomous republics to both domestic and international audiences. It remains a collectible artifact of late Soviet book art and Caucasian cultural representation.
