Блок: бумага равномерно потемневшая, характерная для газетной/типографской бумаги 1929 г., без утрат текста и без надрывов листов; каталог выставки на с. 44 сохранён полностью.

Condition very good for so fragile a low-print pamphlet. Front wrapper: a few small foxing spots to the upper area, corners lightly softened. Binding sound throughout, no separations. Text block evenly toned, consistent with 1929 newsprint-grade paper, with no losses or tears; the exhibition catalogue on p. 44 complete.

An exceptionally scarce centenary publication marking one hundred years since the death of Alexander Griboedov (1795-1829), the celebrated Russian diplomat and playwright best known for the comedy "Woe from Wit," who married Nina Chavchavadze, daughter of the Georgian poet-prince Alexander Chavchavadze, shortly before his assassination during the sack of the Russian legation in Tehran. Issued by Georgia's Theatre Museum to accompany a 1929 exhibition, the collection gathers David Arsenishvili's essay on the first Caucasian stagings of "Woe from Wit," Ivan Enikolopov's study of Griboedov's role in Caucasian educational administration, and Enikolopov's catalogue of the accompanying exhibition — which included portraits, an official letter bearing Griboedov's autograph (Tabriz, 31 October 1828), and personal effects such as his magnifying glass and pipe. Both contributors went on to distinguished careers: Arsenishvili (1905-1963) became the founding organizer of Georgia's state museum system and, remarkably, the first director of Moscow's Andrei Rublev Museum of Early Russian Art, where he is celebrated for his role in rescuing and preserving Rublev's icons; Enikolopov (1893-1994) became the foremost Soviet-Georgian authority on Griboedov and Pushkin's Caucasian connections, founding the Griboedov museum that evolved into Georgia's State Literary Museum and later expanding this pamphlet's research into his substantial 1954 monograph of the same title. As the original, far scarcer precursor to that later standard work, this 600-copy centenary edition is of considerable interest to collectors of Griboedov, Russian-Georgian literary relations, and early Soviet museum history.
