The sole Russian translation of the foundational monograph on continuous model theory by Chen Chung Chang and H. Jerome Keisler, first published by Princeton University Press in 1966 as part of the celebrated Annals of Mathematics Studies series. The book generalises classical model theory to the case of an arbitrary space of truth values, a construction the Soviet translator's preface notes was, at the time, studied in the Soviet mathematical-logic literature chiefly in connection with automata theory and technical cybernetics rather than as a foundation for non-classical logics in its own right; the authors transpose classical results and techniques of model theory, including the Löwenheim-Skolem theorem and ultraproduct methods, into logics valued in a topological space, drawing extensively on set-theoretic topology. Chang and Keisler were both leading figures in mathematical logic, with Keisler's subsequent work on model theory (including his later textbook with Chang, Model Theory, 1973) becoming a standard reference in the field. This translation, appearing within a few years of the English original, testifies to the close and rapid Soviet engagement with contemporary Western developments in mathematical logic during the early 1970s, and remains of interest to specialists in model theory, many-valued logics, and historians tracing the Soviet reception of American mathematical logic.
