A first edition collection of short stories by the Georgian writer and literary scholar Archil Chachibaia, gathering eleven or twelve pieces of prose fiction including "Under the Bridge," the title story "In Muddy Waters," "The Call of the Dark Cliffs," "My First Love," "The Little Man," "Maqvala," "Lesia," "Days Cut Short," "Grief," "Old Men," and "The Horseman." Chachibaia belongs to the generation of mid-century Soviet Georgian prose writers who worked in the tradition of realist short fiction centered on ordinary lives, provincial settings, and the moral texture of everyday hardship, themes that dominate this collection's table of contents. He would go on to publish further story collections through the 1950s, including a further volume issued by the same press in 1959, and is remembered as both a practicing writer and a literary scholar.
