This two-volume set represents the first and only complete academic publication of the oral literature of the Megrelian (Mingrelian) people, a Kartvelian ethnic group of western Georgia. Compiled by leading Georgian philologists and folklorists (Togo Gudava, Korneli Danelia, Apolon Tsanava) and published by Tbilisi State University Press over a span of 16 years (1975–1991), it stands as a monumental achievement in Caucasian studies.
