A scarce and highly informative pre-war reference directory of Georgian visual artists, published in 1941 by the Union of Soviet Artists of Georgia. This first edition serves as a comprehensive "who is who" of the Georgian art world at the very onset of the Great Patriotic War. It encompasses sections on painting, sculpture, graphics, and decorative arts, providing biographical profiles, portraits, and monochromatic reproductions of works by leading figures of the era, including masters like David Kakabadze, Lado Gudiashvili, Mose Toidze, and Iakob Nikoladze. The volume is an invaluable primary source for art historians studying the transition of Georgian modernism into the mandated framework of Socialist Realism. Printed in a strictly limited run of only 1,000 copies, survival rates for 1941 imprints are notably low due to wartime paper recycling and historical attrition. This specific copy carries an excellent provenance, originating from the personal working library of Otar Egadze, a highly respected Georgian editor and compiler (notably of the multilingual "Martyrdom of Shushanik"). The red pencil underlinings in the text are characteristic of an editor's active reading habits. It stands as a vital documentary artifact of twentieth-century Caucasian art history.
