A highly significant ethnomusicological compilation published posthumously to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Dimitri Arakishvili (1873-1953), one of the founding fathers of modern Georgian classical music and a pioneering ethnomusicologist. Initiated by the Union of Soviet Composers of Georgia, this large-format sheet music edition gathers 22 traditional folk songs meticulously recorded, transcribed, and arranged for voice and piano by Arakishvili during his extensive ethnographic expeditions. The collection is exceptionally diverse, featuring 16 Georgian masterpieces (including the iconic "Urmuli" and "Orovela") alongside carefully preserved examples of Armenian, South Ossetian, Kumyk, and Circassian musical folklore. The volume includes parallel poetic texts in Georgian and Russian equirhythmic translation. Issued in a strictly limited print run of 1,200 copies by the Georgian Musical Fund, utilitarian large-format paper-bound scores from this era were subjected to heavy use by musicians and academies, making surviving copies in such remarkably clean, well-preserved condition exceedingly scarce.
