This highly specialized philological study examines the language of four key poets of ancient Greek choral lyric poetry. The author, Natan Solomonovich Greenbaum (Н. С. Гринбаум), was a notable Soviet linguist and classicist who contributed significantly to the study of ancient Greek dialectology and metrics. The publication was prepared under the auspices of the Mediterranean Cultures Research Laboratory at Tbilisi State University and edited by R. V. Gordeziani, a prominent Georgian scholar of classical philology. Released in 1986 by the university's press, this first-edition monograph represents a niche but important contribution to late Soviet classical scholarship. Its extremely limited print run of 350 copies underscores its academic character, intended for specialists in ancient Greek linguistics and literature, and highlights the tradition of profound, highly focused research conducted in Soviet academic centers beyond Moscow and Leningrad.
