A complete three-volume Soviet edition of Charles Dickens's iconic novel The Pickwick Papers, published by Academia between 1933 and 1934. This set is notable for its translation by Evgeny Lann and Anna Krivtsova, featuring scholarly commentary by the philosopher Gustav Shpet. The edition is richly illustrated with drawings by Vladimir Milashevsky. The copy bears a direct mark of Stalinist censorship: the introductory article in the first volume has been torn out, as its author fell victim to political repression. This set is a significant artifact of both Soviet bibliophilic culture and the complex intellectual history of the 1930s.
