A first Russian edition of the philosophical and autobiographical work by the Japanese thinker Kenjuro Yanagida, published by the State Political Publishing House (Gospolitizdat) in Moscow in 1957. This translation, prepared by L. Shakhnazarova, who also provided an accompanying afterword, represents a notable example of cultural and ideological exchange during the Cold War era. The publication of a Japanese author's introspective work on the evolution of his worldview through a Soviet ideological lens offers insight into the period's transnational intellectual currents and the Soviet Union's engagement with Eastern philosophical thought.
