A rare first edition of Pavel Muratov’s (1881–1950) collection of stories Heroes and Heroines, published in 1918 by the Symbolist publishing house "Gelikon." The volume includes such notable stories as "The Serpent of Leros," "Morto da Feltre," "Conquistadors," "A Poet in Exile," "The Death of Rudin," and "Vera Morelli." Muratov, a distinguished writer, art historian, and pioneering scholar of Russian iconography, here blends historical imagination with literary refinement. This edition originally featured cover art by the poet and artist Vladislav Khodasevich, though it is absent in this copy. The book is printed on high-quality laid paper and represents a significant work of Russian prose from the immediate post-revolutionary period.
