"Sprut" (The Octopus) : Artistic-Satirical Journal. No. 2, 3 for 1906.
St. Petersburg : Publ. by M.G. Kornfeld, ed. by M.I. Titov, 1906. — 8 pp. each, ill. (incl. cover); 33.5×26 cm. — In publisher's illustrated covers.
The second and third issues of the satirical journal "The Octopus" for 1906. Published in St. Petersburg in 1905–1906, the journal was distinguished by its sharp political focus. Its satire targeted key figures in power: Minister of Internal Affairs P.N. Durnovo and Prime Minister S.Yu. Witte with his constitutional projects, as reflected in slogans such as: "There's only one prime minister... and even that one is Witte," "Without knowing Durnovo, don't meddle in Russia." Several issues (Nos. 4, 10, 11) were confiscated by the authorities. After the 15th issue, the publication was permanently shut down, and publisher M.G. Kornfeld was sentenced to two months in prison. This set of two issues is a valuable collection illustrating the history of the satirical press's struggle.
